We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that preserves open space and restores natural areas in Lake County.
- Our staff and board have professional expertise in open space preservation, land management, ecological restoration, botany and environmental education.
- We belong to the Land Trust Alliance, a national coalition of land trusts that requires adherence to a strict set of standards and practices, and that together protects over 800,000 acres per year.
- Established in 1995 by citizens concerned about development pressures in central Lake County, we have a strong track record of land use planning and ecological restoration in the Liberty Prairie Reserve—a 5,800-acre focus area where 3,200 acres of public and private lands are protected from further development.
- In 2004 we became a countywide land trust—an organization that acquires land or conservation easements on land through voluntary transactions with people who wish to preserve their properties' conservation values.
Our mission is to preserve open land, restore natural areas and inspire a commitment to land conservation for the benefit of people and wildlife in Lake County.
