Outdoor Fun for the Whole Family!


Prairie Pedal is a fun, family-oriented bicycling festival that celebrates the value of nature and conservation for Lake County. There are four route options which take riders through beautiful, open spaces in central Lake County. Prairie Pedal also helps raise funds for the land preservation work of the Liberty Prairie Conservancy and includes a delicious lunch, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, nature-related educational activities, and raffle prizes.

Check-in and Start
Riders can start between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Walk-up registration allowed. Check-in and ride start at the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Grayslake Campus which is located at 1475 E. Belvidere Road (Rte. 120) in Grayslake. We strongly recommend that riders doing the 27-mile route start riding by 9:30 a.m. Lunch is served at the Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The raffle drawing is held at noon at the Byron Colby Barn.

4 Routes to Choose From
(All Routes include some gravel trails so thin-tired, road-racing bikes are not recommended.)
4-Mile (Easy): Trails through Prairie Crossing and into Libertyville Township's Oak Openings
9-Mile (Moderate): Trails through Prairie Crossing and Libertyville Township's Oak Openings as well as travel on scenic rural roads to Almond Marsh Forest Preserve
12-Mile (Moderate to Strenuous): Through Prairie Crossing, Libertyville Township's Oak Openings and Liberty Prairie, as well as travel on scenic rural roads to Almond Marsh Forest Preserve
27-Mile (Strenuous): A longer course through Grayslake and the Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve before covering the 12-mile route as well as an extra stretch of scenic Casey Road.

More than Just a Bike Ride!
  
At rest stops along the way, you'll have the chance to learn firsthand about the natural world of Lake County. Participation includes a delicious lunch, ice cream, and professional massages at the historic Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing. There is also a raffle with great prizes. You do not need to be present to win.

$20 adults ($25 after May 7), $10 ages 6-17 ($15 after May 7)
Free for children under 6
Walk-up registration welcome

Safety  
All riders must wear helmets and obey Illinois traffic laws. We recommend bikes suited for trail riding. Thin-tired road bikes are not recommended.
